Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of January.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, the United States celebrates a federal holiday on the third Monday of January each year. This day is set aside to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King, a civil rights leader who fought tirelessly for equality and justice for all Americans.

Dr. King was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 15, 1929. He became a Baptist minister and emerged as a prominent leader in the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s. He led nonviolent protests against segregation and discrimination and advocated for equal rights for all Americans.

Dr. King's most famous speech, "I Have a Dream," was delivered at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. In this speech, he expressed his vision of a future where all Americans would be treated equally and live together in harmony.

Dr. King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968. His death shocked and saddened the nation, but his legacy continues to inspire people around the world. The Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday was established in 1983 to honor his life and work.

On this federal holiday, we remember Dr. King's message of peace, love, and equality. We celebrate his life and work, and we recommit ourselves to fighting for the ideals that he held so dear.
