Kyle Larson Wins Pole for NASCAR Cup Series Race at Martinsville Speedway

Martinville, Va. (March 26, 2023)

Larson Dominates Qualifying, Edges Out Bubba Wallace for Top Spot

Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, claimed the pole position for Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway, outpacing Bubba Wallace in a thrilling qualifying session.

Larson recorded a fast lap of 96.034 mph, edging Wallace by just 0.002 seconds. It marks the third pole win of the season for Larson and his second at Martinsville.

Wallace, driving the No. 23 Toyota for 23XI Racing, put up a strong challenge but ultimately came up just short. Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, and Joey Logano rounded out the top five in qualifying.

"I'm really happy with our qualifying effort today," said Larson. "This is a tough track to pass on, so starting up front is going to be critical. We have a good car, and I'm confident we can get the job done tomorrow."

Wallace expressed disappointment but remained optimistic about his team's chances in the race. "We came close, but it wasn't enough today," he said. "But we have a good car, and I know we'll be strong in the race. We're going to have to work hard and race smart, but I believe we can give Larson a run for his money."

The NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 26. Kyle Larson will lead the field to the green flag, hoping to continue his impressive start to the season and secure his first win at Martinsville since 2016.
